Cyclone Phailin, categorised as 'VERY SEVERE' is heading towards Indian Orissa and Andhara Pradesh states with likely damage estimated to be more than what Katrina did to USA.
In view of the likely devastation, over 200,000 people have been evacuated to aver damages by Phailin heading from Bay of Bengal to Indian east coast.
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted the storm will bring winds up to 220 km/h (136mph). It is also predicted that Phailin would bring heavy rain, which would be accompanied by a storm surge of at least 3m (10ft).
It may be recalled that a deadly super-cyclone in 1999 killed more than 10,000 people in Orissa.
