Turkey recalls its Vatican envoy over Pope's genocide claim

In a tit for tat move on Pope Francis' genocide claim, Turkey has recalled his envoy from Vatican.

Pope's description of mass killing of Armenians under the erstwhile Ottoman Empire in WW1 as genocide has infuriated Turkey which refutes such claims.

It may be added that Armenia claims that up to 1.5 million people were killed by Ottoman forces in 1915 - a claim always refuted by Turkey which has disputed that figure and said the deaths were part of a civil conflict triggered by WW1.
