Pakistan Goes to Poll Today - 11 May 2013

11 May today is a big day in the history of Pakistan as this is first time in Pakistan's 65-year history that a civilian government has completed its full term and handed over power in democratic elections. Previous governments have been toppled by military coups or sacked by presidents allied with the powerful army.

There is much hype in Pakistan this time as cricketer turned politician Imran Khan of PTI has been successful mobilizing the youth of Pakistan, who have generally stayed away from elections in the past.

The major parties that are hot favourites include the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of Imran Khan and the Pakistan Muslim League (N) of two time former prime minster Nawaz Sharif.

Generally speaking, Imran Khan is a new voice among the already tested corrupt and inept politicians of Pakistan who have brought country to almost a grinding halt due to inchoherent policies and lack of vision for the future.

Pakistan's people really do need a change as the out going government of mainstream PPP (Pakistan People's Party) has given nothing to the country and the miseries of the poor have surmounted beyond imagination.
